Walking in Gascony Sunshine

Sunshine is always good for the soul, and today the Gers served up one of those perfect days – it was ‘fresh’ so still a time for a hat and gloves – but beautiful sunshine and clear blue skies – perfect walking weather.

This corner of Gascony offers lovely walking, with a mix of quiet country lanes that weave through the vineyards, as well as designated routes that are traffic free.

So today we ventured out along part of the ‘Les chemins de Saint Jacques de Compostelle’ – one of the pilgrim routes that criss-cross the French countryside en-route to Spain. To undertake the whole Pilgrimage is a huge commitment both in time and energy and yet it remains extremely popular. The experience offers an opportunity to escape the stresses of modern life, a time to think and reflect, or simply undertake the sporting challenge of walking through miles and miles of stunning countryside; the route clearly marked with the scallop shell logo. Locally, the route visits some of our favourite places – Lectoure, Larressingle, Montréal, Eauze and, of course Condom, which is where we enjoyed our walk today.

Le Petit Cochon chambres d’hôtes is just 8km from Condom and a great stopping point for those in need of a hot shower and a comfy bed along the way! One night stays are welcome, so please contact us if you need any help with your planning.
